Christmas Sydney Style...

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! With the Antipodean Festive Season as much about hitting the beach as shopping till you drop, here's some tips for a hassle free and memorable holiday time in Sydney.

1. Start Early.

Get all those main presents crossed off the list. Then you can get in the festive spirit and visit some of the Christmas Markets around the city. Our favourite is The Rocks Christmas Market. Every year a magical marketplace pops up in the historic precinct of The Rocks with fairy lights strung above the cobbled streets and market stalls offering handmade Christmas decorations, artisan jewellery and locally designed fashion, as well as delicious holiday-themed street food.

2. Don't take on too much.

Want to host a fabulous New Year's party? Then make that the main event. The traditional lunch with the family can be held on Boxing Day at Great Aunt Edna's. Why not start your own new tradition and dine out on December 25th. What better way to embrace the spirit of Christmas in Sydney with spectacular waterfront views - no one does it quite like OTTO in Woolloomooloo. With Christmas Day Lunch Packages from $350 per person, it will be an occasion to remember!

3. Enjoy the quieter times.

When the office is closed and out of office switched on it's time to relax! Stock up on some great books - and cross off some of those presents by visiting some of Sydney's quirkier independent bookshops. Grand Days in Woolloomaloo is a great adventure — offering everything from classic and contemporary fiction to art, music and film to history, science and architecture. Interspersed among the titles are vintage dresses, secondhand shoes, hats, bags and jewellery so you might just discover the best Party dress for your special occasion.

4. Embrace Style on a Shoestring.

We all succumb to social media at this time of year but the holiday season is a time for tradition - dust down those decorations from last year - reuse and re-invent. Want a beautiful new floral feature - why not get together with some friends and have a Christmas Craft Party - you can make a beautiful festive wreath or create some table decorations using a selection of dried and fresh-to-dry flowers and foliage.

5. Get near the water!

Explore some of Sydney's best beaches. Murray Rose Pool (formerly Redleaf Pool) in Rose Bay offers a secluded alternative to some of the more popular Eastern Suburbs beach destinations. A tranquil harbourside enclosure offers safe swimming with pontoons and a kiosk with a great outlook to Double Bay. But if you're located in the inner west then head south to Lady Robinsons bay with its long expanse of pristine white sands it feels like a tropical island just 20 minutes from home.

6. Explore.

We all like to stay in our bubble - this holiday time why not think like a tourist and head out to some areas of the city you've not ventured to before. Keen for a day out with one-stop mix of everything? Balmain might just be exactly what you’re looking for. This trendy harbour neighbourhood is deeply entrenched in history with eateries, galleries and leafy parks to explore and with a weekend collectors market in neighbouring Rozelle you may just find the perfect antique collectible for a special someone.

7. Make Memories.

The holiday time can roll by so quickly - make this year a memorable one by splurging on quiet luxuries.  Need wine glasses for the Christmas table - invest in style and quality to last a lifetime. For the Secret Santa - choose a quality candle over a plastic novelty and you'll give a gift that will be cherished all year round. Dinner with friends - buy the French Rosé and savour every drop!

Wishing you the happiest and healthiest holidays from the Team @ Cramer.
